2008.07.24 (Thursday): Revised Pricing and License Terms. Bionic Buffalo has revised its pricing structure and modified its license terms.

New prices are adjusted mostly downward, and are now pegged to the gold price. There had been no changes to most of our prices during the previous five years. The new mechanism of adjusting to the gold price is intended to avoid either frequent, small price changes or less-frequent, large price changes, while accounting for inflation or deflation. Regardless of its utility as a currency, gold has shown excellent stability as a price indicator over the very long term: prices of land, commodities, and common goods have, in terms of gold, not changed nearly so much as when they are measured in terms of fiat money.

Of course, payment can be made in money; the gold price is merely used to set the money price.

We have also begun to revise our licensing terms. For some proprietary products, we are now offering simpler licenses, more in accord with the ways the products are used. For open source products, we are shifting to GNU GPL 3 and the GNU Affero GPL 3, mostly away from GPL 2.
