simple sugar is a free, open-source version of sugar, distributed under GPL 3, under development and in testing for use on Linux, Windows, and Macintosh platforms.
simple sugar includes basic bandwidth management features, but does not control multiple users. However, if there are several computers connected to the same hub or wireless router, and if they are permitted to communicate among themselves, and if a copy of simple sugar is installed in each connected machine, then they will manage the bandwidth collectively. (In other words, the program will prevent all users together from exceeding the bandwidth allowance, but will not allocate among them in any special way.) It does not include any login passwords or other special security features. It is intended for small networks, home or business, where access to the network is already controlled in some other way.
The program will be available for download from this site. The initial release will be for Linux, with other platforms to follow.
