Licenses

Some software products are licensed under these open source licenses:

• GNU GPL 3
• GNU Affero GPL 3

Products licensed under the above open source licenses also are available under modified versions of these licenses. We call these modified versions the Imperfect GNU GPL 3 and the Imperfect GNU Affero GPL 3. The imperfect licenses are not free: you must pay for them. The imperfect licenses are the same as the standard GNU licenses, except that you are not required to publish the source code for your applications using our libraries or applications. The imperfect licenses are not transferrable: your customers receive our code under the standard (perfect) forms of the licenses.

Some of our software is offered under one or more of the following commercial licenses:

Individual Developer License

This is a perpetual license to an individual developer, permitting unlimited use of the tool on machines owned or controlled by that developer. If you work for someone else, then you can use the tool on an employer owned machine, but you cannot allow anyone else to use it. When you leave the company, the license stays with you personally.

If the tool generates code which invokes one of our libraries offered under an open source license, then you are also granted automatically an imperfect form of the open source license for use with the generated code. The grant of imperfect license does not include an imperfect license for your employer, customer, or other recipient of the library or generated code.

We do not grant these licenses to corporations, to governments, or to other artificial persons. We believe that workers should own their own tools. These licenses are inexpensive, so a business can afford them for each worker, so there is no reason for a business to complain.

Site License

This is a perpetual license allowing the use of the software on any number of machines at a single physical location.

Distribution License

This is a perpetual license allowing the incorporation of the software into a product so that the API and other interfaces (except where designated) are not exposed to the user. Any number of copies of the binary form of the software may be distributed to others as part of the hardware or software product.

Not all of the software licensed is owned by us. However, we are not simply a distributor: we support all of our products regardless of their title or provenance.
