tatanka.com home > engineering EngineeringAlthough I started out in mathematics, most of my career I've made a living as an engineer, usually in some area related to computers. I've worked as an engineer or programmer in semiconductors, manufacturing, avionics, finance, quality control, signal processing, encryption, networks, security, automotive design, medicine, petrochemicals, and computer system design. Although these fields may seem diverse, some of their engineering problems, and their solutions, have a great deal in common. The prinicples of system stability used in avionics are applicable to medicine. Analysis techniques for quality control can be used in finance. Diagramming methods used in computer software can be used in security and even in law. One can obtain useful, creative, and efficient results by seeing the similarities among diverse application areas, and by borrowing technology from other fields. Here will go some examples of my work, as well as some thoughts on engineering and on my experiences as an engineer. (Current software gets its own section.) Planned contents:
